"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Jonah Goldberg: An Open Conspiracy to Slant the News -- JournOlist

When this story broke, the first thing that flashed across the thought process was wondering how many of the people involved had bothered to even join the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). The fact that SPJ exists along with their Code of Ethics is no secret. It is taught in Journalism Ethics classes in college and used around the Country in newsrooms. The idea of having a Code of Ethics is excellent. The problem is the journalists who don't follow it including editors.

Every last member of JournOlist has abdicated the Right of Freedom of the Press guaranteed by the Constitution. They took it upon themselves to slant the news for Obama covering up facts that might make him look bad. Is that news? Not even a little as most of the people supporting McCain who had done any investigation knew the media was on their knee pads for Obama and would say and do anything to protect him. That said, we never imagined they had an organization dedicated to protecting Obama with coordinating what to say and report which goes against every ethics rule for a journalist.

Ethics is the basic foundation of journalism and taught in every Journalism College/School in America. Students on school newspaper have more integrity than the people who belong to JournOlist. How many Journalism Professors are members of that list?

In case people are not aware, every Journalism student has to take a course in Ethics to graduate and in that course you will find the SPJ Code of Ethics which they are expected to adhere to when they start writing. At graduation several years ago the Dean of a Journalism College told each student if they didn't adhere to ethics in what they reported, he would hunt them down. He expected every one of the graduates to live up to the Ethics they had been taught.

What is the SPJ Code of Ethics and how does it apply to this situation?
The SPJ Code of Ethics is voluntarily embraced by thousands of journalists, regardless of place or platform, and is widely used in newsrooms and classrooms as a guide for ethical behavior. The code is intended not as a set of "rules" but as a resource for ethical decision-making. It is not — nor can it be under the First Amendment — legally enforceable.

For an expanded explanation, please follow this link.

SPJ Code of Ethics

Download a printable copy [PDF]

Preamble
PreambleMembers of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility. Members of the Society share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code to declare the Society's principles and standards of practice.

Seek Truth and Report It
Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information....

Minimize Harm
Ethical journalists treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect....

Act Independently
Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public's right to know....

Be Accountable
Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other....

Postscript
The SPJ Code of Ethics is voluntarily embraced by thousands of writers, editors and other news professionals. The present version of the code was adopted by the 1996 SPJ National Convention, after months of study and debate among the Society's members.
If every person associated with journalism had adhered to these SPJ Code of Ethics, something like JournOlist could not have happened. Over the years the bias in the media has gradually gotten worse as reporters and editors have taken to slanting the news and lying to suit their agenda. This time it was to elect Obama and not only was it slanted but they coordinated what to say which is why the news sounded like a bunch of mouthpieces all reading the same talking point papers. Little did we know they came from the same place -- JournOlist.

JournOlist seems to be nothing more than an extension of the Obama campaign to fool the American people into believing he was something he wasn't or the fact that he was extremely liberal, had been mentored by Communists, hung out with domestic terrorists, or went to a Black Liberation Church for 20 years with Rev Wright for starters. All swept under the rug including the fact that Bill Ayers wrote 'Dreams of My Father' and some of the recollections were Ayers not Obama's but why let the truth get in the way.

Any member of JournOlist working for a media operation, needs FIRED -- not resigned -- FIRED with no benefits and never be allowed to work in the field again. If they are a college journalism professor, they also need FIRED and blackballed from teaching journalism. Every last member of JournOlist abdicated their responsibility to the American pubic to report the news and act in an Ethical manner. The biggest question is if they are publishers involved along with owners of the news organizations.

Is the field of journalism totally corrupt? We don't believe so based on the experiences of a young journalist we know well who had an editor who was a stickler for facts. He may be a rare breed these days but we have to think that here in Middle America Journalism Ethics might be a lot better than in the cesspool of the East Coast starting with Columbia Journalism where a lot of these people graduated. Some real 'investigative' journalist might want to take a look at what is taught at Columbia or other of the prestige universities of the East Coast.

Jonah Goldberg has done an outstanding job of summing up what has happened. We agree with him that this is not new and not the smoking gun. Although we believe this episode of the liberal media goes to a new low even for the liberals.

An Open Conspiracy To Slant the News

JournoList is a symptom, not the disease, of liberal media bias.

The JournoList has started to leak like an over-ripe diaper. Just in case you’ve been living in a cave, or if you only get your news from MSNBC, here’s the story. A young blogger, Ezra Klein, formerly of the avowedly left-wing American Prospect and now with the avowedly mainstream Washington Post, founded the e-mail listserv JournoList for like-minded liberals to hash out and develop ideas. Some 400 people joined the by-invitation-only group. Most, it seems, were in the media, but many hailed from academia, think tanks, and the world of forthright liberal activism generally. They spoke freely about their political and personal biases, including their hatred of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

That off-the-record intellectual bacchanalia has started to haunt the participants like an inexplicable rash after a wild party during Fleet Week.

Last month, David Weigel, a young Washington Post blogger hired to report on conservative politics, ostensibly from a sympathetic perspective, left the Post thanks to his damning statements on JournoList (conservatives are racists, Rush Limbaugh should die, etc.).

Now the diaper is coming off entirely. Perhaps stretching the diaper metaphor too far, what’s inside JournoList may stink, but it’s no surprise that it does. JournoList e-mails obtained by the Daily Caller reveal what anybody with two neurons to rub together already knew: Professional liberals don’t like Republicans and do like Democrats. They can be awfully smug and condescending in their sense of intellectual and moral superiority. They tend to ascribe evil motives to their political opponents — sometimes even when they know it’s unfair. One obscure blogger insisted that liberals should arbitrarily demonize a conservative journalist as a racist to scare conservatives away from covering stories that might hurt Obama.

Oh, and — surprise! — it turns out that the “O” in JournoList stands for “Obama.”

In 2008, participants shared talking points about how to shape coverage to help Obama. They tried to paint any negative coverage of Obama’s racist and hateful pastor, Jeremiah Wright, as out of bounds. Journalists at such “objective” news organizations as Newsweek, Bloomberg, Time, and The Economist joined conversations with open partisans about the best way to criticize Sarah Palin.

Like an Amish community raising a barn, members of the progressive community got together to hammer out talking points. Amidst a discussion of Palin, Chris Hayes, a writer for The Nation, wrote: “Keep the ideas coming! Have to go on TV to talk about this in a few min and need all the help I can get.” Time’s Joe Klein admitted to his fellow JournoListers that he’d collected the listserv’s bric-a-brac and fashioned it into a brickbat aimed at Palin.

Many conservatives think JournoList is the smoking gun that proves not just liberal media bias (already well-established) but something far more elusive as well: the Sasquatch known as the Liberal Media Conspiracy.

I’m not so sure. In the 1930s, the New York Times deliberately whitewashed Stalin’s murders. In 1964, CBS reported that Barry Goldwater was tied up with German Nazis. In 1985, the Los Angeles Times polled 2,700 journalists at 621 newspapers and found that journalists identified themselves as liberal by a factor of 3 to 1. Their actual views on issues were far more liberal than even that would suggest. Just for the record, Ezra Klein was born in 1984.

In other words, JournoList is a symptom, not the disease. And the disease is not a secret conspiracy but something more like the “open conspiracy” H. G. Wells fantasized about, where the smartest, best people at every institution make their progressive vision for the world their top priority.

(snip)

The conservative movement at least admits it is a movement (even though conservatives outnumber liberals 2-1 in this country). Establishment liberalism, not just in the press but also in the White House, academia, and Hollywood, holds power by refusing to make the same concession. “This isn’t about ideology. . . . We just call them like we see them. . . . We don’t have an agenda.

”The open conspiracy that perpetuates that lie is far more pernicious than any chat room.—

Gov Bobby Jindal: "Let Us Go Back to Work!"

After watching this video of Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, we are asking why isn't Bobby Jindal at the top of the list of candidates for the Republican nomination for President in 2012.

When you measure someone in a time of crises like the Gulf Oil Spill, the name Bobby Jindal is going to surface as a Leader versus the incompetence shown by Obama and his entire Administration. If you didn't know better, you would think Obama and Salazar want to completely tank the Louisiana economy. They wouldn't want to do that, would they?

Bobby Jindal has proven he won't back down when the livelihoods of the people of Louisiana are at stake. Every day he has to fight the Obama bureaucracy but the next day he gets right back up and goes at it again. The word tenacious comes to mind for Jindal who is a man with a backbone of steel. If Governor Jindal does this for Louisiana, think what he could do for America.

This speech by the Governor is an example of the passion we heard when Jindal was running for Governor of Louisiana. Bobby Jindal is a man we would be proud to call Mr. President.

Hayworth's primary challenge to Senator McCain Just Sunk to a New Low

Just when you thought that the JD Hayworth campaign could not sink any lower, they manage to do just that. Two different articles following the debate make us wonder about the people running his campaign not to mention the candidates himself when they cannot get their facts straight. First we have the Hayworth bullies now picking on another Senate candidate's Jim Deakins daughters to force him out of the race.

1. Hayworth and his campaign after continuing to lie about about Senator McCain, have sunk to a new low by wanting the 3rd person in the race, Jim Deakin to get out of the race. It wasn't enough for Hayworth and his people to ask him to get out of the race because now some of the Hayworth thugs have stooped to harassing Deakin's daughters. Who does Hayworth think he is that he gets to determine who stays and who gets out of the race? It does go along with Hayworth reputation of being a bully and when he doesn't get his way, he turns nasty. Looks like he hired people just like him -- bullies for his campaign. After watching this interview with Jim Deakin, you might want to ask why anyone is still supporting JD Hayworth or why they would consider voting for the man who will do and say anything to get elected.

2. Now we get into the 'bizarre world of the JD Hayworth campaign after his Social Media Alexander tweeted after the last debate on Saturday night. Had to read it twice to make sure what she was saying.

The first article from the Arizona Star from Tuscon led with the headline, Political notebook: Tweet over McCain 'amnesty' baffling. Guess baffling is a good of word but we actually lean toward bizarre.

The headline for the second article on the same subject from the Phoenix News Times, Rachel Alexander Criticizes John McCain for Honoring War Hero Killed in Afghanistan; Claims 20-Year-Old Soldier Died Because of "Immigration Crime," says it all. It is why you are left with trying to figure out how Alexander, the Hayworth Social Media Director, came up with linking Christopher Moon's death in Afghanistan with illegal immigration. That did not compute and the Arizona media is as much in the dark as everyone else. Then Alexander tried to spin it, but this something that could not be spun.

This all started when Senator McCain used part of his closing statement at the end of the Saturday Night Debate to pay tribute to Christopher Moon, a hometown hero who was recruited to play baseball at the University of Arizona, but instead joined the Army to serve his country. Moon tragically died last week after he was wounded by an IED in Afghanistan.

After Sen. McCain praised Moon’s service and sacrifice in his closing statement, Congressman Hayworth’s social media director, Rachel Alexander, sent out a tweet, which read: “McCain gives fake-sounding closing mourning 4 someone who died due to illegal immigration crime. Insincere due to his amnesty bill.”

We have been gone for a couple of days from the blog so we thought maybe we were just tired and had missed a beat when we saw the two articles, but no, it was true -- Hayworth's social media director had actually taken Senator McCain to task for talking about an illegal immigrant who had been killed while committing a crime when in reality, it was a United States soldier who was killed in Afghanistan. How would you like to be the person to explain it to his family that the J.D. Hayworth campaign member compared their son to an illegal immigrant. Obviously the Hayworth campaign social media director didn't listen to what Senator McCain was saying but then neither does her boss most of the time when he tries to hang Amnesty on Senator McCain. It didn't work the first time he tried it this campaign season, and it is not working today.

Are Hayworth and his campaign staff so angry with the fact that they are behind in this race that they will stop at nothing to try and score points including defaming a soldier who was killed in the line of duty? For anyone from the Hayworth campaign to even infer that an American solider had anything to do with what is happening on the Arizona borders is not only wrong, but disgusting and despicable.

You would think after awhile that Hayworth and his campaign would stop the phoney charges against Senator McCain, but no they are so bent on making any charge stick (even phoney ones) that now they didn't even listen to what Senator McCain had to say in his closing remarks before making a snarky remark after the debate -- this time it bit them big time. Voters of Arizona are now seeing J.D. Hayworth for who he is, and it is not a pretty sight.

The bizarre and offensive attack prompted the Phoenix New Times to question why Alexander was bashing Sen. McCain “for honoring [a] war hero killed in Afghanistan.” In the comment section of that post, Alexander tried to clean up her mess, claiming, “For the record, I was not referring to the veteran McCain was speaking about. I was referring to the deaths of those caused by illegal immigrant related activity that McCain spoke about.” This prompted the New Times reporter who wrote the original post to comment: “For the record, I saw the debate, too. At no point in McCain's closing statement does he mention illegal immigration.”

He’s right. You can watch Sen. McCain’s full closing statement for yourself:

As you'll see, he never once mentions illegal immigration. To be honest, we’re not sure what Alexander was thinking. Maybe she was taking a lesson from her boss, Congressman Hayworth, who can use any question or comment as a springboard to launch a non sequitur attack against Sen. McCain for supporting “amnesty.” At the very least, Alexander’s tweet was ill thought out. At the worst, it’s grossly offensive.

While sitting here working on this article watching videos and reading the articles, it struck us that the one who should be dropping out of the race after running one of the most negative, despicable campaigns this primary season is J.D. Hayworth not Deakin.

You don't see Senator McCain asking Hayworth to leave the race so why should Hayworth tell Deakin to get out? Our guess is Hayworth thinks Deakin getting out of the race will give him the nomination. Highly unlikely after the voters are being reminded once again of the lack of class of the former Abramoff Congressman Hayworth. After all, he was the one who offered them free money in an infomercial after the voters of Arizona threw him out of Congress in 2006.

There is only one choice for Arizona in their primary on August 24, 2010, and that is Senator John McCain who has always put our military and Arizona first

Bo (Obama Dog) Flown to Maine on a Separate Government Plane?

Barack Obama had the family dog Bo flown to Maine in a separate government jet for the Obama family's vacation weekend, according to news reports.
Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.; and the president's personal aide Reggie Love.
BTW, Obama's aide Reggie Love gets paid $102,000 per year of taxpayers' money to handle Bo and hold Obama's ice cream cones, among other highly sought after well-paid jobs skills.
NOTE: The Obama's took two jets to Maine as the airport was too small for Air Force. One for the dog and his $102,000 a year handler and a few other aides.
Why take your dog on a weekend vacation? How much did this trip cost the taxpayers? We will bet we never hear a peep out of the media as to the cost to the taxpayer. Pres Bush flew home to Crawford where he had an office to handle Presidential affairs while Obama keeps interupting other people's lives with his vacations but yet the media went after Bush. Makes no sense. What happened to Obama going home to visit his home in Chicago -- once in almost 18 months.

This sentence by Cliff Kincaid gives us hope that the truth about the Russian Agents will eventually come out in spite of what we consider a cover-up by the Obama Administration.

"Fortunately, some people are paying critical attention to what has transpired."
The first question of ours is why were they not charged with espionage by the Obama Administration? The FBI follows them for ten years, in June 2010 they arrest them but don't charge them with espionage, and in July the Obama Administration swaps these ten Russian spies for four political prisoners held by the Russians? That makes zero sense.

In all the Security Briefings we had quarterly while working for the Air Force, the one that has stayed with me the longest was the video of the American city which was constructed in Russia for their spies to learn about American life so when they came here, they would blend in and no would notice them. Can remember when the Russian Mission at the UN wanted some of their people who were visiting from Moscow to come to Wright-Patterson AFB to tour the AF Museum. Their request was turned down at that time because it was considered off-limits to the Russians because of spying. Today the Obama Administration would probably open up the Museum after hours so the Russians could visit.

Will never forget when Bush 41 exchanged visits with the Russians at some of our Air Force facilities including Strategic Air Command (SAC) and Secretary of Defense Cheney stating he would NEVER trust the Russians. We agree with Cheney's comments today as much as we did in the early 90's. Never could figure out Bush 41's bending over backwards to the Russians but that was nothing compared to the Clinton's. Then we had Bush 43 looking into the eyes of Putin, former KGB, and thinking he could see in his heart. Wanted to throw up. All of this cannot compare to what we are seeing out of Obama and his people.

The Talbott case is consistently ignored by the major media because he is respected and trusted by his colleagues in the press. He is also trusted by Senator Richard Lugar, who served as Obama’s mentor when Obama was in the U.S. Senate and traveled to Russia, only to be detained and have his passport examined by Russian authorities. Obama joked about the detention, saying he wasn’t in the Gulag.
Talbott being the go to person with the Russians shouldn't come as a shock to anyone following his career. He should have been the first thought when they said someone from the Clinton Administration was involved with the Russians.

But what blew us away is the comment we highlighted about Obama and his passport. Why would the Russians detain Senator Obama and have his passport examined by Russian authorities? What do the Russians know that we don't? What are the Russians holding over Obama? Did Obama, as alleged in some places, attend college in a foreign country as part of a Columbia University exchange program as a foreign student at Columbia? So many questions and so few answers as Obama continues to keep all of his records off limits and our lapdog Obama media goes right along.

Please visit Accuracy in Media (AIM) to read this entire article. There are a handful of writers today who have the background and expertise to write an article that analyzes the Russian Spy swap and Cliff Kincaid is one of them.

The Russian Agents, Obama, and the Cover-up
By Cliff Kincaid
July 16, 2010

Fortunately, some people are paying critical attention to what has transpired.
Our media do not seem to be interested in the curious matter of why the Russian agents accused of trying to acquire sensitive nuclear information from the U.S. Government were so quickly released. Why were they were sent back to Moscow less than two weeks after they were arrested?

It is certainly the case that a continuing spy scandal threatened to undermine U.S.-Russia business “opportunities” and “cooperation.” It is also true that there is evidence that the Russian agents targeted the Obama Administration and former Clinton Administration officials.

Just before the scandal broke, a $4 billion deal had been announced between Boeing and a Russian firm. During the visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to the U.S., Cisco Systems had announced it was going to spend $1 billion in Russia, in part to develop a Moscow version of Silicon Valley. The United States Export-Import Bank had also announced a new deal to underwrite, with U.S. taxpayer dollars, U.S. business exports to Russia.

Plus, Obama had submitted a U.S.-Russian nuclear cooperation agreement, backed by powerful business interests, to the U.S. Congress.

All of this was clearly in jeopardy if the Russian spy scandal led to additional revelations of Russian spying on the American government and businesses. So the scandal had to go away—and quickly.

The exchange was hammered out so quickly and was so advantageous to the Kremlin, however, that it should have become apparent to some journalist somewhere that there was much more to the story. But the issue was just as quickly dropped by the media, liberal and conservative alike.

(snip)

Writing on the website of World Affairs, Vladimir Kara-Murza says that Yelena Bonner, the widow of academician Andrei Sakharov and a prominent advocate of human rights in Russia, “called the swap a missed opportunity and denounced the Obama administration not only for agreeing to an unequal exchange (ten for four) but, more importantly, for not requesting the freeing of more political prisoners, of whom there are scores in today’s Russia.”

One of those released by Russia in exchange for its agents was a political prisoner, historian and researcher Igor Sutyagin.

(snip)

Has the possible penetration of the U.S. Government by foreign spies become a laughing matter for the Obama Administration? Are they fearful that a realistic review of what the Russian agents were doing would lead to the conclusion that Obama’s foreign policy plays into the hands of the Russian government and has in fact been manipulated by the Kremlin?

Documents in the scandal demonstrate, as we have reported, that the Russian intelligence service, the SVR, was interested in penetrating “think tanks” with influence over U.S. foreign policy. The SVR, the successor to the KGB, was especially interested in nuclear weapons-related information.

What we do know, based on public reports, is that one Russian agent had a job at Microsoft, another had been trying to cultivate a fundraiser for and friend of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and another had claimed contacts with a Clinton Administration official by the name of Leon Fuerth, who had been Vice President Al Gore’s top national security aide.

So we quickly found out that top Obama and Democratic Party officials had been targeted in this intelligence operation. Is this why the scandal had to go away?

(snip)

Scratching the surface of the scandal, Walter Pincus of The Washington Post wonders if all of the Russian agents have been rounded up.

He writes, “The best public indication of the extent of Moscow’s efforts comes from the late Sergei Tretyakov, the former Russian intelligence officer who under the guise of a press officer at the U.N. Mission ran espionage operations in New York City from 1995 to 2000. He served the last three of those years as a double agent for the FBI until he defected to the United States. As Tretyakov told author Pete Earley in the book ‘Comrade J,’ at one time he had more than 60 SVR officers working inside the United Nations and more than 160 contacts made up of illegals, outright spies, and other people who knowingly or unknowingly could supply information useful to Russia.”

According to Earley, Tretyakov died “unexpectedly” on June 13. The circumstances were so suspicious that an autopsy was performed under the supervision of the FBI.

(snip)

The Strobe Talbott Case

But there is something else that Pincus did not mention. It has to do with those “other people” targeted and used by Tretyakov and the Russians.

The book, Comrade J, identifies Strobe Talbott, a former high-ranking Clinton State Department official and the current president of the Brookings Institution, a major liberal think tank, as having been a trusted contact of the Russian intelligence service. Talbott has denied serving as a Russian agent, but when he was up for his State Department job in the Clinton Administration, he admitted a relationship with Soviet “journalist” and KGB agent Victor Louis.

(snip)

Pincus asked, “What will the Russians do now?” He noted that Tretyakov had said that when the Cold War was over, “the United States asked Russia to stop the KGB’s covert propaganda activities that portrayed Washington in foreign media as carrying out terrible activities, such as saying the United States was spreading HIV in Africa.”

In response, Pincus noted that Tretyakov said that the KGB closed down “Department A,” which ran the propaganda and disinformation operations, but then established another program which did the same thing. “Nothing changed,” Tretyakov said.

So the propaganda and disinformation activities continue. Indeed, that is what the Kremlin-financed global Russia Today television channel is all about. It has a major presence in the U.S.

But wait. Didn’t the Reverend Jeremiah Wright repeat the KGB disinformation that the U.S. was spreading AIDS? Indeed he did. In fact, Wright, who was Barack Obama’s pastor for 20 years, actually claimed at a National Press Club appearance during the 2008 presidential campaign that the U.S. Government had manufactured the AIDS virus to kill black people.

So we have one identified channel of influence whereby Soviet propaganda and disinformation was spewing from the mouth of someone with direct influence over the President of the United States. But few in the major media were interested then—or now—as to whether or not Obama believed any of that nonsense.

Holder’s Absurd Claims

One possible reason for quickly deporting the spies, from the point of view of the Obama Administration, is that they had explosive information about Russian influence over the U.S. Government that would have been too incriminating to reveal in a public court case. “Russia considered these people very important to their intelligence-gathering activities,” Attorney General Eric Holder admitted. “They didn’t pass any classified information,” Holder insisted.

Are we supposed to take his word for it? This is one of the most political appointees that Obama has put in power. He is the official suing Arizona over its immigration policy and letting the Black Panthers off the hook for making threats at a polling station. When he was in the Clinton Justice Department, he helped orchestrate pardons for members of terrorist groups.

It is widely assumed, since they were not charged with espionage, that the Russians were agents of influence who were trying to affect or obtain information about U.S. foreign policy. But this doesn’t mean that they did not do significant damage. The documents in the case cite secret money drops and secret messages to “Moscow Center.”

“We did actually make contact with certain people and did obtain certain information from people who were unwitting in their interaction with these people,” Holder acknowledged. Who were these “unwitting” people? Were they dupes of Moscow? Were they in the Obama Administration? Were they in the think tanks that we know the Russians targeted?

Holder had no real answer to CBS “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer’s question of why, after spending so many years following these agents, they were not prosecuted. Holder could only claim that the 10 were somehow not as valuable as the four we got. In terms of math alone, it just doesn’t add up.

BREAKING: BP, Scientists Try to Make Sense of Well Puzzle -- Pressure Readings Not as HIgh as Expected

At the end of a long day, BP is not sure if they are going to have to open back up the cap to release some oil as pressure readings are lower than expected. Is there a leak somewhere in the well? No one knows for sure as the other answer to lower pressure that the reservoir is running low after three months doesn't make a lot of sense. Testing will go into the night before BP decides if they are going to release more oil in the Gulf.

We certainly hope that everything goes well and the people of the Gulf States can get some good news for a change.

BP, Scientists Try to Make Sense of Well Puzzle
Updated: 19 minutes ago

Harry R. Weber, Holbrook Mohr and Vicki Smith
AP

NEW ORLEANS (July 16) - In a nail-biting day across the Gulf Coast, engineers struggled to make sense of puzzling pressure readings from the bottom of the sea Friday, trying to determine whether BP's capped oil well was holding tight or in danger of springing a new leak.

No immediate leaks were spotted, which was encouraging. But midway through the testing period on the new temporary cap that was bottling up the crude inside the well, the pressure readings were not rising as high as expected, said retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the government's point man on the crisis.

Allen said two possible reasons were being debated by scientists: The reservoir that is the source of the oil could be running lower than expected three months into the spill. Or there could be an undiscovered leak somewhere down in the well. Allen ordered further study but remained confident.

"This is generally good news," he said. But he cautioned, "We need to be careful not to do any harm or create a situation that cannot be reversed."

He said the testing would go on into the night, at which point BP may decide whether to reopen the cap and allow some oil to spill into the sea again.

Freddoso: Obama: ‘My policies…got us out of this mess.’ aka living in a dream world

Obama has a very hard time with 'reality' if he thinks his stimulus got us out of this economic disaster. Obama and the Democrat majority in Congress keep making it worse not better. As for their stupid stimulus signs that costs so much money, they have put them on projects the city/state has funded not the stimulus. Our small city is an example of where the Obama clones tried to take credit for roadwork the citizens had approved bonds -- signs came down soon after they went up wasting more tax dollars. Doubt if we are the only place that happened.

Obama: ‘My policies…got us out of this mess.’By: David FreddosoOnline Opinion Editor07/16/10 2:15 PM EDT

The Dow is down 200 points today on news of weak consumer confidence — that measure is at an 11-month low. But President Obama, speaking to NBC, wants to make sure you know that his economic plan has already succeeded.

[H]e says the midterm congressional elections could come down to “a choice between the policies that got us into this mess and my policies that got us out of this mess.”

“MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!” The stimulus is working, whether you realize it or not.
Is it Obama’s fault you haven’t seen those $10,000 Recovery Act road signs on your daily commute because you’re out of work?

Cafe Hayek Smackdown to a Young Artist Letter to Washington Post

He Should Bone-up on History

Here’s a letter to the Washington Post:

Benjamin Kelley says that his art “represents the dehumanization of modern society” (“An artistic body of work’s bone of contention,” July 16). I’d like to ask him which aspects of pre-modern society he believes to have been most humane. Was it a life-expectancy of about 30 years? How about mass illiteracy? Maybe Mr. Kelley longs for the odors, lice, and scabs that regularly adorned human bodies that seldom bathed and that slept on dirt or straw?

Possibly Mr. Kelley regrets that the homicide rate in modern society is far lower – as much as 90 percent lower – than in pre-modern societies? Perchance he laments modernity’s liberation of women from the oppressive dominance of men? Maybe he finds fault with modern humans’ greater skepticism of tales of witches and sentient volcanoes? Or perhaps Mr. Kelley is upset simply because modernity has eradicated slavery?

Being only 26 years old in modern society, Mr. Kelley has many decades left to reject his fashionable romantic nonsense about a past Golden Age. Were he born just a few generations earlier, however, not only would he have been unable to earn a living as an artist, his own stint in humanity would have been much shorter.

Sincerely,

Donald J. Boudreaux

Michigan View: He came, he saw, he insulted -- Obama's trip to Holland, MI

For a long time when Obama has made trips to communities around America touting his stimulus, we get this glowing report out of the White House media that pay to travel with him. Their reports seem too glowing to be true.

Now we have the truth of his visit to Holland, Michigan, from someone from Michigan. Obama wasted our tax dollars once again to fly to Michigan to tout his (failed) stimulus and give money to an$11 billion Korean Conglomerate that is not in financial trouble. Why couldn't they spend their own money to add jobs in Michigan instead of our tax dollars? Bet it wouldn't cost them $500,000 a job like it does the stimulus. Then he praises a Governor who has been nothing but a failure and disses their Congressman.

Congressman Hoekstra showed a lot of class by even going to the event out of respect for the Office of President since Obama was coming to his district. What did he get in return? Obama was his usual petty self toward Hoekstra. The people that bought into Obama wanting bi-partisanship sure got short changed as this President has nothing but contempt for almost all Republicans unless he can use them to get his way and then he will dump on them when he doesn't need them. Scott Brown are you listening?

This article by Henry Payne nails Obama who is now in Maine on vacation wasting more of our tax dollars on AF One travel which he sees as his personal taxi to travel for pleasure and quick campaign trips. Dare we ask if the DNC has ever reimbursed the AF for his travel for Democrats? Guess it is too much for the White House media to dare ask such a question of Gibbs.

Reading this article this morning put a smile on my face because it shows people across America are understanding what Obama is all about -- selfish, petty, and the biggest waster of tax dollars ever by a President. Americans are waking up one by one to who they elected in 2008 and are not happy. If we could use Hillary's reset button she gave the Russians for the 2008 Presidential campaign, the results would be different after 18 months of Obama in the White House. With a reset, he would still be in the Senate if he didn't quit.

He came, he saw, he insulted
By Henry Payne / The Michigan View

In the latest stop on his “Recovery Summer” tour, rock star President Barack Obama landed in Holland, Michigan Thursday, insulted its congressman, handed American stimulus dollars to a Korean corporation, and proclaimed Obamanomics a success even as Michigan has lost 94,000 jobs since his Recovery Act was enacted.

All in all, another day in the life of an increasingly unpopular president who seems to be living in an alternative universe.

That universe insists that government is the source of jobs, and so Obama was in Western Michigan to declare another victory in Washington’s mission to create a new green economy.

But the green economy looks like a lot of green for the well-connected. The president handed $150 million in stimulus money over to Korean CEO Peter Bahnsuk Kim of LG Chem. LG Chem is an $11 billion Korean conglomerate that hardly seems a candidate for the American Recovery Act. No wonder the program is so unpopular.

Accompanying Obama was Governor Jennifer Granholm - Obama praised her as “one of the best governors in America” even as she presides over the nation’s second highest unemployment rate – who has been complaining that Washington Republicans are denying her the $500 million in stimulus money she needs to plug Michigan’s Medicaid budget hole. So here she was in West Michigan celebrating $150 million for Corporate Korea. Huh?

Obama said his benevolence would create 300 jobs in Holland – but that’s $500,000 per job. At least it’s a bargain compared to the $ $1.25 million per job Obama spent on two solar companies in Arizona over the July 4 weekend.

The president cheered that LG Chem batteries will go into GM’s electric plug-in Chevy Volt "so when you buy one of these vehicles, it will be stamped 'Made in America.’” But precious few Americans will buy the $40,000 Volt (that’s BMW 3-series sticker territory) as they are targeted at well-healed consumers making over $100,00 a year in places Silicon Valley.

West Michigan is suffering 12 percent unemployment yet President “Audacity of Hope” had the audacity to suggest that the stimulus “efforts we took we are no longer bleeding jobs." In fact, since his $1 trillion Recovery Act was passed a year ago, Michigan has lost nearly 100,000 jobs.

Obama couldn’t even get his manners right. Ever the partisan, he took a shot at his host, Holland Congressional representative Pete Hoekstra who was in the audience. Despite opposing the Recovery Act, Hoekstra attended the ground-breaking ceremony, he told The View, “out of respect for the office of president.”

The respect was not returned. "Some made the political calculation that it's better to obstruct than to lend a hand,” sneered Obama at the end of his remarks. “Now that doesn't stop them from being at ribbon cuttings, but that's OK."

And then the president jumped in his 10 mpg Caddy limo and headed to the next stop on his tour to transform what Americans drive.

BREAKING NEWS: BP oil well is no longer leaking into the Gulf of Mexico

We wish BP nothing but Good Luck on this well as the entire Gulf Coast especially Louisiana could use some good news:

BP oil well is no longer leaking into the Gulf of MexicoPublished: Thursday, July 15, 2010, 2:52 PM Updated: Thursday, July 15, 2010, 5:17 PM
Jaquetta White, The Times-Picayune

There was no oil flowing into the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon after BP crews managed to shut in the leaking Macondo well.

The company is now conducting a "well integrity test" to determine if the well can remain closed until it can be permanently shut with cement next month.

The test will last anywhere from 6 to 48 hours, during which time scientists will measure pressure inside the well. If pressure rises and holds at 8,000 to 9,000 pounds per square inch, the well could remain closed. If it is lower than that level, however, if will be reopened and oil will be sucked, again, to vessels on the surface.

Low pressures would indicate that oil is escaping through one or more fissures in the well.

Financial Reform Bill Will Kill Jobs and Raise Taxes

Some days it makes you wonder about the three New England Republicans and what makes them take the positions they do on some bills. We just don't understand this vote at all because Congressman Pence is correct. We hate to believe that constituents in their states were pushing this bill because if they were, they are out of touch with the rest of America. We also don't understand how they keep voting with Democrats to kill debate. In this instance, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) who is in a tight race voted against this bill and against cloture which we don't find too shocking as he done this before on similar bills. He understands the outcome more than the three Republicans -- Senator Scott Brown (R-MA), Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME).

This was not a good day for them to pass this as we wonder how much this bill is going to cost the consumer like their other bills they have passed since Obama took office. Every time Congress passes a bill to protect the consumer it costs us more money. Do they think that banks will not pass on the charges to the consumer? How dumb can members of Congress be?

Today a notice from Target was received detailing the new rules about credit cards that the Federal Government decided to stick their noses into. Late payment fee has risen from $25 to $35, returned payment fee is now $25, and minimum payment due has gone from $10 to $25. Also the Prime Rate they use to charge interest is now on one specific day a month not the day of billing. If someone is struggling to keep up with credit card payments, how is raising everything going to help. This is a very small account but what if it had a large balance and your minimum payment was more than doubled? Bet you see people going belly-up on their credit cards thanks again to the Democrat controlled Congress and Obama.

Congressman Pence is so right and why it is so disgusting to see three Republicans vote for this bill when we are supposed to be the party of limited government.

Cong Pence: Financial Reform Bill Will Kill Jobs and Raise Taxes
“It is a fundamental departure from the American ideals of personal responsibility and limited government.”

Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, released the following statement today after the U.S. Senate passed the Democrats’ financial regulatory reform bill:

“This so-called financial reform bill will kill jobs, raise taxes, restrict the flow of credit, make bailouts permanent, and turn the Democrats’ disastrous too-big-to-fail approach into federal law. It is a fundamental departure from the American ideals of personal responsibility and limited government, and it does nothing to make Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac compete fairly in the marketplace. “This bill can be summed up in two words: ‘government control,’ and it will serve as the latest piece of the president’s job-killing agenda. This represents another defeat for American families, small businesses and family farms, who continue to wonder when Washington Democrats will set aside their big government programs and work with Republicans on ideas that can actually put Americans back to work."

This past week's winner about the signs for the stimulus was the perfect idea to save money. In fact we had stimulus signs put up for some of our local road projects that our town had passed bond issues for several years ago and road work had ZERO to do with the stimulus. That fact didn't stop the Democrat Governor and his fellow Obama supporters from trying to get credit for Obama by wasting our money on the stimulus signs. Signs lasted less than 24 hours as the residents complained.

is one of the best ideas we have seen out of this Congress, but we don't see Democrats jumping on board this Republican idea. It is about the Country not the Party but the Democrat Congressional leadership unfortunately does not see it that way. Their agenda is Party over Country and the first priority is to do whatever Obama wants.

Karl Rove: "My Biggest Mistake in the White House"

We agree President Bush should have answered back the charges leveled by the hypocritical Democrats, but we do not believe that started the politics of personal destruction -- Democrats were way ahead of the game. Even today, if you are a Democrat and cross this President, Obama will throw you under the bus so fast your head will spin. Ask Bolden from NASA to give an honest assessment of Obama's tossing him under the bus on the outreach by NASA to Muslims. When you are willing to throw members of your own party under the bus, it is nothing to Obama to throw Republicans especially President Bush under the bus. The Democrat mantra to this day is "Blame Bush" and take NO responsibility for their actions.

Unfortunately not answering back the charges made it much worse as the Democrats took more liberties with pounding day after day on President Bush knowing full well they had seen the same intelligence. There were WMD's -- any thinking person knows those convoys leaving Iraq prior to the invasion were not carrying groceries. The United Nations was useless as usual but the US kept going back for more resolutions so that gave Sadaam ample time to rid of the WMD's from Iraq before the invasion he knew was coming. Are the WMD's still in Syria or have the Russians removed them back to Russia?

It wasn't only the WMD's but they were the first issue of the not answering back charges. As the years went on and more charges were leveled on a host of issues, the President stayed quiet. He went from the President with a backbone of steel after 9/11 to being too nice in trying to get along with people from a party that wanted to destroy him.

This is why many of his most loyal supporters in 2000 still don't understand why he would never answer back the false charges and take the offensive not be on the defensive. Rove can take the blame, but the ultimate blame lies with President George W. Bush who allowed it to continue.

How the Democrats treated President Bush has zero impact on our comments against Obama. We do not like his agenda and frankly did not like the people he was friends with or mentored by for years. That doesn't even account for the fact that he will not release documents pertaining to his life from his birth to legislative record in Illinois and everything in between. He is a closed book which leaves people to speculate since he has spent almost $2M to keep his birth certificate a secret. Why?

The well was poisoned back in the 1992 campaign when the Democrats who had convinced President GHW Bush to raise taxes after his giving a pledge of "Read my Lips -- NO New Taxes" turned around and charged Pres Bush for breaking his pledge in ad after ad. Then in that 1992 campaign Carville convinced Ross Perot to get back in the race and siphoned votes away from Bush. Perot kept coming up with some of the strangest comments against President Bush that the media pushed. Politics took a nasty turn in 1992. You could say that James Carville brand of politics helped inflame the politics of personal destruction that we see today.

As long as Democrats rely on 'Blame Bush' and voter fraud to win elections, the poisoned well in DC will never get fixed.

OPINION JULY 15, 2010
My Biggest Mistake in the White House
Failing to refute charges that Bush lied us into war has hurt our country.

By KARL ROVE
Seven years ago today, in a speech on the Iraq war, Sen. Ted Kennedy fired the first shot in an all-out assault on President George W. Bush's integrity. "All the evidence points to the conclusion," Kennedy said, that the Bush administration "put a spin on the intelligence and a spin on the truth." Later that day Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle told reporters Mr. Bush needed "to be forthcoming" about the absence of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Thus began a shameful episode in our political life whose poisonous fruits are still with us.

The next morning, Democratic presidential candidates John Kerry and John Edwards joined in. Sen. Kerry said, "It is time for a president who will face the truth and tell the truth." Mr. Edwards chimed in, "The administration has a problem with the truth."

The battering would continue, and it was a monument to hypocrisy and cynicism. All these Democrats had said, like Mr. Bush did, that Saddam Hussein possessed WMD. Of the 110 House and Senate Democrats who voted in October 2002 to authorize the use of force against his regime, 67 said in congressional debate that Saddam had these weapons. This didn't keep Democrats from later alleging something they knew was false—that the president had lied America into war.

Senate Intelligence Chairman Bob Graham organized a bipartisan letter in December 2001 warning Mr. Bush that Saddam's "biological, chemical and nuclear weapons programs . . . may be back to pre-Gulf War status," and enhanced by "longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Yet two years later, he called for Mr. Bush's impeachment for having said Saddam had WMD.

Getty Images
On July 9, 2004, Mr. Graham's fellow Democrat on Senate Intelligence, Jay Rockefeller, charged that the Bush administration "at all levels . . . used bad information to bolster the case for war." But in his remarks on Oct. 10, 2002, supporting the war resolution, he said that "Saddam's existing biological and chemical weapons capabilities pose real threats to America."

Even Kennedy, who opposed the war resolution, nonetheless said the month before the vote that Saddam's "pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated." But he warned if force were employed, the Iraqi dictator "may decide he has nothing to lose by using weapons of mass destruction himself or by sharing them with terrorists."

Then there was Al Gore, who charged on June 24, 2004, that Mr. Bush spent "prodigious amounts of energy convincing people of lies" and accused him of treason, bellowing that Mr. Bush "betrayed his country." Yet just a month before the war resolution debate, the former vice president said, "We know that [Saddam] has stored away secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."

Top Democrats led their party in making the "Bush lied, people died" charge because they wanted to defeat him in 2004. That didn't happen. Several bipartisan commissions would later catalogue the serious errors in the intelligence on which Mr. Bush and Democrats relied. But these commissions, particularly the Silberman-Robb report of March 31, 2005, found that the "Bush lied" charge was false. Still, the attacks hurt: When they began, less than a third of Americans believed the charge. Two years later, polls showed that just over half did.

BP Lobbied Brits Ahead of Lockerbie Bomber Release

UPDATE from the Washington Examiner Morning Reads:

The Hill -- Senate Democrats blame BP and Britain for Lockerbie bomber’s release

The well is capped, but not capped, as the feds and BP continue to squabble over the safety of clamping down the new lid. At one point, BP even stopped drilling on the relief wells for safety fears.

It’s hard to get people to work together when each discussion is part of a criminal investigation being led by one of the parties.

But the effort to nail BP took an interesting turn Wednesday as the Senate delegations from New York and New Jersey suggested that the British government sought the release of Libyan Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi at the behest of the oil company, then locked in negotiations with the Quaddafi regime over a $900 million oil project.

The Senators admitted a circumstantial case, but did not stint in demonizing BP and, by extension, the British government for trading the release of a convicted terrorist for oil leases.
This is ticklish for President Obama in two ways.

First, PM David Cameron is headed to Washington for a White House visit next week. To have four members of Obama’s party pushing hard on such an unflattering story will make their reunion a little more awkward

Second, it’s believed that the Obama administration had at least a heads up, if not a sign off, on the release of al-Megrahi, whose terminal illness has seemingly abated in the desert climes of his homeland. If BP lobbied Gordon Brown’s government, did it also lobby Obama’s? Did the ample access provided by being the favorite Democratic energy company make the task easier?

So far, the Senators are only asking Hillary Clinton to investigate herself, but these things have a way of taking on lives of their own.

Writer Alexander Bolton explains:

“On Tuesday, the four Democratic senators sent a letter to Clinton demanding an investigation, writing, ‘Evidence in the Deepwater Horizon disaster seems to suggest that BP would put profit ahead of people — its attention to safety was negligible, and it routinely underestimated the amount of oil gushing into the Gulf. The question we now have to answer is, was this corporation willing to trade justice in the murder of 270 innocent people for oil profits?’

Lautenberg has also asked Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-Mass.) to hold a hearing on the decision to free al-Megrahi.”
__________________________

The release of the Lockerbie Bomber never made a lot of sense especially when they used 'he was on his death bed' but when he got off the plane, he looked just fine. Knowing that BP was partially behind this doesn't shock us that much because our impression of BP prior to the spill was not very high. They seem to have put profits over safety for years as witnessed by the BP refinery fire in 2005 at Texas City which killed 15 workers and injured over 170. They had numerous safety violations at this refinery but chose to ignore.

That is why when in the spring of 2009 when the former Minerals Management Office granted them waivers on safety inspections, it made no sense. Neither did BP changing procedures for cementing days before the explosion and ignoring the pressure numbers when they could have evacuated the rig. Once again it saved money but at what cost in terms of lives and creating an ecological disaster in the Gulf and to the Gulf states?

It is also why we questioned Obama and his Administration allowing BP to be in charge of stopping the spill and the clean-up, ignoring the plans in place in 1994 to deal with this type of explosion, putting the Coast Guard in charge not the Navy, and turning down assistance from foreign countries, oil producers, and renowned professors in the oil and gas community for starters. At the same time Obama refused to grant the requests of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal for weeks and then only approved a small portion of those requests. Why weren't the booms readily available as required by the 1994 plan which is still in place? Why didn't they allow the skimmers in place right away? A lot of questions with no answers.

It is not only BP which acted in a reckless manner putting dollars over safety but the Obama Administration allowed them to continue without seeming to care what was happening in the Gulf for weeks. Then their answer was to put a moratorium on drilling in the Gulf for six months until the Interior Department was satisfied with their plans for a disaster when the other oil companies have not had 1/10th the safety problems of BP and have their plans in place. Salazar doesn't have a clue but yet is planning to issue a 2nd Moratorium after the 1st one was overturned by the Courts. The economy in Louisiana is suffering already because of the spill and now Obama wants to kill it more.

Obama has sent $2B to Brazil for their offshore drilling for Petrobaus, but by the actions of this Administration, they want to cripple our offshore drilling operations with their useless moratoriums. Is it a matter of Obama and Salazar telling the petroleum producers that "we are in charge and you will do what we say?" or is there an ulterior motive behind all of this. The six-month moratorium (could go longer) that they want to put in place will lead to more drilling leaving the Gulf and require more import of oil from foreign sources who do not have the best interest of the United States at heart. What did Obama promise the Saudi King after bowing early in his Administration?

Where is Obama? He hasn't spoken again for days about the disaster. Must be time for another vacation because the man is working too hard out raising dollars for Democrats. What if President Bush would have done that during a disaster? The media would have been relentless how he was neglecting the duties of President. But what do we hear now? Crickets chirping out of the media on Obama's lack of interest on the Gulf disaster.

BP Lobbied Brits Ahead of Lockerbie Bomber Release

LONDON (July 15) -- Amid a new U.S. furor over trading a terrorist for commercial considerations, BP confirmed today that it had lobbied the British government in late 2007 over a prisoner transfer agreement with Libya prior to the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi. The London-based petroleum giant said it had voiced concerns that the slow pace of negotiations risked impacting an offshore drilling deal with Moammar Gadhafi's North African country.

"BP told the U.K. government that we were concerned about the slow progress that was being made in concluding a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with Libya," BP said in a statement. "We were aware that this could have a negative impact on U.K. commercial interests, including the ratification by the Libyan government of BP's exploration agreement."The company's statement appears to have been prompted by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's announcement on Tuesday that she was considering a request by four senators to investigate whether BP pushed for last year's release of Megrahi in exchange for lucrative drilling concessions off the Libyan coast.

"Evidence in the Deepwater Horizon disaster seems to suggest that BP would put profit ahead of people -- its attention to safety was negligible and it routinely underestimated the amount of oil gushing into the Gulf," read a letter sent to Clinton by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer of New York, and Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez of New Jersey. "The question we now have to answer is, was this corporation willing to trade justice in the murder of 270 innocent people for oil profits?"

Smoking Gun? What is the Obama Administration Hiding with the Rapid Swap of 10 Russian Agents?

Update, 07/14/10, 7:04 p.m. now we have a 12th spy who was arrested and then sent to Russia yesterday -- how many more and why the quick transfer?

(July 14) -- The 12th person detained in connection with the Russian spy ring investigation was a software tester at Microsoft's Redmond, Wash., headquarters, the company confirmed today in published reports.

Alexey Karetnikov, 23, worked at Microsoft as an entry-level software tester for about nine months, the company said. Microsoft did not comment on when Karetnikov began employment at the company. The news of his job at Microsoft was first reported by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Karetnikov was deported to Russia on Tuesday, following his arrest in Seattle on June 28.

"He was present in the United States in violation of immigration law and voluntarily agreed to deportation in lieu of further court proceedings," Matthew Chandler, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, told KOMO-TV.
___________________________________________

The following paragraph says it all and flies in the face of any denials by this Administration that this wasn't about politics:

The swap of the 10 "illegals," or deep-cover agents, last week — 12 days after their arrest — also prevented trial disclosures of other potentially embarrassing details, like the identities of what an FBI criminal complaint described as a "former legislative counsel for the U.S. Congress" and "former high-ranking United States government national security official" both of whom provided information to two Boston-based Russians in the case. Both officials' names were omitted from the complaint.
One thing we can be certain is that both the former legislative counsel for the U.S. Congress and a former high-ranking US government national security official are Democrats because if they were Republicans it would be above the fold headlines on the front page. That's how the Democrats and media work hand in glove. If it is a negative about a Democrat don't bother to say the party but if it is a Republican plaster it all over.

Since they arrested an 11th spy as part of this ring, it makes one wonder how many there are all total. Odd deal about the 11th spy as he was arrested by Cyprus authorities as he was trying to leave the island and then released. What are these people hiding that they are released so fast or swapped very quickly? Maybe they know where Obama was born as no one else seems to be able to determine that with 100% accuracy.

If there were 11 spies, you can take it to the bank that there are a lot more operating in the United States. Some reset button by Obama and Hillary with Russia's
leadership who knew all along they had spies in this Country. Russian leaders must have been laughing inside at Obama and Hillary and their reset button.

Obvious that this Administration is not going to give the details of why the swap of spies took place so rapidly which leads to even more speculation that something is being covered up. Yet, we are supposed to take the CIA spokesman word that there was nothing political involved. If any political appointee from the CIA said the sky was blue today, we would have to check for ourselves. They have the credibility of a gnat. In fact probably less than a gnat.

Spy swap puts halt to fact findingPublic trial of 10 Russian agents could have led to revelationsBy Bill Gertz
9:10 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010

The Obama administration's rapid release of 10 Russian intelligence officers removed the prospect of a public trial revealing embarrassing facts about Russian influence operations, like the targeting of a key Democratic Party financier close to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Current and former national security officials critical of the speedy exchange with Moscow also said trading the 10 spies for four Russians less than two weeks after their arrest also limited U.S. counterspies from learning important details of Russian espionage and influence operations.

Questions about the handling of the case were raised Tuesday during a closed-door briefing of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the ranking Republican on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, questioned the unprecedented speed used by the administration in moving the spies out of the country.

"We gave up the opportunity," he said. "Now that these people are out of the country, it's game off, not game on. We will get no additional insights or information from them."

Mr. Hoekstra said the House intelligence oversight panel will be briefed on the case this week and "tough questions" will be raised about the swap. "Right now, it looks like this is one time the government should have been a little more deliberate and taken its time before acting in haste," he said.

(snip)

The Russian SVR foreign intelligence service also asked its spies to provide information on the new strategic arms treaty, the war in Afghanistan and Iran's nuclear program, indications that Moscow is working covertly against U.S. efforts on those issues, despite efforts by President Obama and Mrs. Clinton to "reset" U.S.-Russia relations.

Law enforcement and intelligence officials close to the case said politics did not play a role in the decision to quickly swap the spies for the four Russians held on intelligence-related charges by Moscow. They also dismissed the idea that more information would have been gained from holding the spies longer. The exchange took place Saturday in Vienna, Austria.

American People Spoiled because we don't like Obama?

Thanks to Radio Equalizer for posting these comments from Bill Press about Americans tanking Obama in the Polls. We knew that Bill Press was a kneepadder for Democrats but he has taken it to a new low with this rant. Blaming Americans for being spoiled as the reason we don't like Obama in the polls leaves us shaking out head because that makes no sense.

Excuse us for valuing our freedoms that Obama and his minions like Bill Press want to see go away as they seem to want Obama to be a dictator. Then he can silence the loyal opposition. Where was Press when Pres Bush was in office and the Democrats critized him at every move and he was one of them?

Libtalker Meltdown Over Obama Poll Collapse: 'Americans Are Spoiled'

BILL PRESS (32:49): I think this says more about the American people than it does about President Obama. I think it just shows once again that the American people are spoiled. Basically, spoiled-- as a people, we are too critical. We are quick to rush to judgment, we are too negative, we are too impatient. Especially impatient. We want it all solved yesterday, and if you don't, I don't care who you are -- get out of the way.

And again, basically spoiled. To the point where it makes me wonder if it's even possible to govern today. I gotta tell you, I don't think Abraham Lincoln -- who certainly didn't get everything right the first time -- could govern today. I'm not sure Franklin Roosevelt could govern today, the way we are again. Just about like spoiled children. And it's Americans, and it's the media, and if we don't get instant gratification, then screw you is basically our attitude.

A Congressman, Held Accountable - Cong Brad Sherman, (D-CA-27)

On top of everything else, a Democrat Congressman from CA says that he never heard of the Black Panther case? That defies belief. Crowd did a great job of calling him on his comments.

A Congressman, Held Accountable
July 13, 2010 Posted by John at 8:26 AM

If you don't think voters are up in arms about the discriminatory policies of Barack Obama's Department of Justice, check out this video of a town hall meeting held by Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman, CA-27. A constituent asks him about DOJ's dismissal of charges against members of the New Black Panther Party and describes the case accurately. Sherman claims not to have heard about it, drawing fury from the crowd:

What is interesting to me is how well-informed the crowd is. Democrats think the liberal media can black out stories like the one about the New Black Panther Party, but they can't, not anymore, and voters are not going to stand for feigned ignorance in their elected officials.

Commission: Ironic challenge to stop Gulf tankers from Lafourche Parish President

First impressions of the Oil Hearings is that the leader of the of the newly named Bureau of Ocean Energy Management aka Minerals Management Michael Bromwich is very arrogant and doesn't seem to care if they tank the economy of the Gulf. Doesn't seem to make him any difference that BP has 97% of safety violations and they had no plan for this oil explosion of their well -- everyone has to be lumped together.

We decided after listening to him for about 5 minutes to look at his background:

Bromwich helped prosecute Oliver North in the Iran-Contra investigation in the late 1980s. After that, he was inspector general for DOJ during the Clinton administration. He then went into private practice at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. But his most high-profile work at the firm has been leading turnaround efforts at troubled agencies like the Houston and Washington, D.C., police departments.

The Harvard-trained lawyer's sparkling resume has a notable gap -- almost no energy experience. A document distributed by Interior says Bromwich "conducted many major internal investigations for companies ... in the energy, pharmaceuticals, public accounting, and private security industries, among others," but does not detail the energy work.

Harvard trained attorney who prosecuted Ollie North and has no energy experience but from his demeanor he knows more than the people who are well versed in the oil industry. We are not saying the old Minerals Management Office wasn't corrupt as they allowed BP to skate on safety inspections and just about everything else, but what makes Obama think that a Harvard lawyer is the best equipped to deal with this. He is adamant that shallow water permits are being approved but it looks like those approvals may be recent ones.

Why is the Obama Administration punishing oil companies like Shell Oil who has an excellent safety record because of BP? That is one question that this Administration doesn't seem to want to answer. A second question is why is Obama sending our tax dollars to Brazil to drill offshore but has a moratorium on the offshore drilling in the Gulf. They say deep water only but everyone is still waiting to see the permits for shallow water.

This Parish President had her facts straight and would have loved to see the look on the environmentalist face when President Randolph gave her the truth about the oil tankers. This Gulf Oil Disaster has left us with admiration for the elected officials in Louisiana starting with Governor Bobby Jindal. The Parish Presidents who are on the front lines are doing a great job with little to no help by Obama or his Cabinet Members and their staffs.

Senator Vitter (R-LA) and Senator Landrieu (D-LA) have both been trying to make this stubborn Obama Administration understand this moratorium is having dire consequences in LA and could get worse if more rigs pull out of the Gulf. Obama or his appointees are not interested in listening to what the leaders of Louisiana have to say which is fairly obvious with these new hearings and some of the comments.

Commission: Ironic challenge to stop Gulf tankers from Lafourche Parish President

Charlotte Randolph, president of Lafourche Parish, addresses the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Spill and Offshore Drilling hearing at the Riverside Hilton Hotel on Tuesday, July 13, 2010.

Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph made an impassioned case Tuesday for lifting the Obama administration's drilling moratorium with an ironic suggestion: If safety demands a stoppage of drilling, then oil tankers delivering much of the nation's fossil fuels must be banned, too.

Randolph directed her comments at Frances Beinecke, a member of Obama's presidential oil spill commission, noting her blogs calling for the end of all offshore oil and gas exploration.

"I'm asking you to join with me then in challenging the president and Secretary (Ken) Salazar, stop all oil tanker traffic in the Gulf of Mexico," Randolph said to Beinecke, who appeared chastened by the direct challenge.

Randolph explained that she doesn't truly endorse a ban of tanker traffic, but said she was raising the issue to show the contradictions in Salazar and Obama's claims that drilling is simply too risky to continue while the BP spill is still being contained and cleaned up.

"An oil tanker is a four times greater risk of spilling its cargo than an oil well blowing out," Randolph said. "Tankers carrying 3 million barrels of oil traverse the Gulf daily en route to Houston." She noted that was about as much as BP had spilled in 84 days.

In testimony Monday, Coast Guard Rear Adm. Peter Neffenger admitted that a lack of work with local and parish leaders was a key failing of the government's response to the oil spill so far.

On Tuesday, local leaders testified before a presidential commission and backed up Neffenger's comments.

"In any war, you find people who speak the language and who know the terrain," said Randolph. "I don't think we were used enough in the beginning when the plans were being made. Let us advise you all the way and treat it as you would a war. Make it that tactical."

Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle said he shouldn't have been required to leave his island to meet with 20 different federal and BP leaders about combating the oil coming ashore.

"It was too many chiefs, and all we wanted was someone on the ground making decisions," he said. "It is getting better in that situation, though."

Ken Blackwell: Obama's "Fly Me to the Crescent Moon" Policy

We thought this graphic captures the Obama/Bolden 'Outreach to Muslims' very well and reminds us of the lines from space movies, "We Come in Peace!" It fits perfectly with the editorial by Ken Blackwell at Townhall.com.

Blackwell has a way with words and has done a masterful job of a slap-down of Obama and Bolden on their policy of the newest space frontier is an outreach to Muslims. These three paragraphs speak volumes about why this outreach is so dumb and what Muslim Nations could do on their own:
I have a simple way for Muslim-majority nations to excel in science and technology: Have everyone read a list of Jewish scientists who have won the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, or Medicine in the past century. Then, perhaps, their leaders could stop their Israel-bashing and Jew-baiting.

They might also read George Gilder’s latest book The Israel Test. Gilder, who is not Jewish, says Israel is a wonderful test for everyone. Do we envy and resent this people?

Do we covet what they have produced? Do we want to emulate their productivity and creative genius, or do we darkly ascribe their feats to a “Zionist” protocol? Gilder holds up a mirror to anti-Semites everywhere. What do you see?
When we first read that "Outreach to Muslims" was the next endeavor of NASA, it was like "What did we just read?" We thought it came from Obama and sure enough the White House and NASA reportedly are standing behind NASA's administrator for saying that his "foremost" mission is to reach out to the Muslim world according to media outlets. We should not have been surprised as Obama did say in 2009:
"And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslims Americans, we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. And so there's got to be a better dialogue and a better understanding between the two peoples."
Facts are that with around 6 million Muslims, we are the 34th largest Muslim country. How Obama came up with the United States would be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world is anyone's guess. Guess Obama missed the part in history that we are a Judeo/Christian Nation.
Since Obama stated during the campaign "I have visited all 57 States" maybe it is the other '7' states who have all the Muslims? We cannot fathom anyone raised in America not knowing we have '50' states. Maybe that statement during the campaign should have been a clue to voters that this Senator from Illinois may not be someone who was raised as an American. With so little investigating by the press even after the gaffes like that, we still don't know.

Cannot even fathom what NASA employees are thinking about the President and the NASA Administrator today. All these years these men and women have worked toward the goal of exploring further into space, but now are told their next mission is to the Middle East. What a comedown from the lofty heights of space to the deserts of the Arab lands. Excuse me but this is like a "Beam me Up Scotty moment." What a waste of our tax dollars.

Ken Blackwell does a great job of capturing the abject stupidity of this outreach by Obama and Bolden in his editorial:
Obama's "Fly Me to the Crescent Moon" Policy
Ken Blackwell
July 11, 2010

Maybe it’s the Dog Days of Summer. Perhaps it’s the heat—102 degrees in Washington—that’s getting to peoples’ heads. But President Obama’s latest policy—announced by his NASA administrator, astronaut Charles Bolden, is about to melt down.

Speaking on the Arabic language network al-Jazeera, Bolden said Mr. Obama had given him his marching orders for NASA: Get American kids re-inspired to do better in math and science. Work on international cooperation. And, perhaps most important: find ways to “reach out” to the Muslim world to affirm their strong contributions to science and engineering.

First, we have to consider that President Obama is gutting NASA’s budget. He has scrapped the Constellation Program that would take Americans back to the Moon. There are possible resources there that could help all of us on earth with our energy needs. Former Sen. Harrison Schmitt, who walked on the Moon, says we could mine the Helium-3 that is abundant beneath the lunar surface and use it for nuclear fusion. Perhaps, perhaps not, but we are unlikely to know if we’re not going back there.

Second, why should American kids be excited about math and science when Administrator Bolden confesses that the U.S. can no longer even put astronauts in low earth orbit without help from other nations? President Kennedy led this nation to the Moon, but President Obama is teaching us to look inward. Under this administration, NASA has been grounded.

Third, this “outreach” to Muslims by NASA is, well, lunacy. Telling Muslims that they once led the world in science and technology is wonderful. They did. But that was before murderous mullahs took over control of Muslim societies and threatened with death anyone who didn’t toe the line of theocratic control.

Fox News: Adams Bombshell - DOJ has issued a mandate not to remove dead, voters who move, ineligible felons from Voter Lists

This is a new bombshell dropped by former DOJ attorney Adams about a meeting where Deputy Attorney General Fernandez stated they are not to enforce Section 8 of the Motor Voter Voter Law which would require all voter registrars to remove dead voters, people who move, ineligible felons, and others who cannot legally vote.

J. Christian Adams is an election lawyer who served in the Voting Rights Section at the U.S. Department of Justice. His website is Election Law Center. Adams also is now a contributor to Pajamas Media where his latest bombshell deals with Section 5 of the Motor Voter law and the The Ike Brown Case: Is the DOJ About to Fail Another Race-Based Test? We will bring you updates as they happen this week on this case.

Attorney Adams is providing the American citizens a real look into the inner workings of the Obama Department of Justice under Attorney General Eric Holder, and we don't like what we are seeing. We suspected some of it but this goes beyond anything we could have imagined starting with the comments of Deputy Assistant Attorney General Julie Fernandes:

In November 2009, the entire Voting Section was invited to a meeting with Deputy Assistant Attorney General Julie Fernandes, a political employee serving at the pleasure of the attorney general. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Motor Voter enforcement decisions.

The room was packed with dozens of Voting Section employees when she made her announcement regarding the provisions related to voter list integrity:

We have no interest in enforcing this provision of the law. It has nothing to do with increasing turnout, and we are just not going to do it.
Adams also states that when the Bush Administration was in office, they brought cases against people on Section 7 and Section 8. Yet, Obama through Holder and Fernandes wants all those names to stay on the voter lists so they are ignoring Section 8. Why? Is it so that ACORN and other groups can continue to send fraudulent voters to the polls since in most states no photo ID is required.

Should the voter lists at the polling places show the person's year of birth on the records? Would be easy to see if someone was born in 1830, that they are probably dead today. Use that date since in S. Texas when we lived there a person went to vote and his great grandfather who had fought in the Civil War had voted before him.

Every voter list in American needs scrubbed. How many Democrats are voting illegally? Makes you wonder if all the lists were scrubbed if there would be as many registered Democrats as we have today which makes voter fraud easier to hide.

Once again while searching for back-up information on the Minnesota Senate election, we ran across another site which had the above video with details of how corrupt the DOJ is today. Minnesota Majority site has been fighting this for two years trying to get violations of election law investigated by the DOJ to no avail. DOJ refuses to look and act on the evidence. FBI looked at the evidence and agreed it was strong, but nothing happened and now we know why.
Not Just a Minnesota Problem
July 8, 2010

Minnesota Majority has been calling for an investigation into violations of federal election law in Minnesota for nearly two years. That call has gone unanswered by the US Department of Justice.

Now we are finding out why.

Former Justice Department attorney J. Christian Adams testified before the US Commission on Civil Rights that the current administration of the United States Department of Justice has a policy of not enforcing the anti-fraud provisions of the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA). Specifically, Section 303(a) of HAVA requires that the states perform voter registration list maintenance to remove deceased and ineligible voters (including felons and those who’ve moved out of state). This is an anti-voter-fraud measure that, according to Adams, Deputy Assistant

Attorney General Julie Fernandes refuses to enforce.

Adams quoted Ferndandes as saying, “We're not interested in those kind of cases. What do they have to do with helping increase minority access and turnout? We want to increase access to the ballot, not limit it.”

She evidently doesn't want to limit access to the ballot by ineligible felons, dead people and people who don't live in the state they are voting in, because the law in question requires such names to be purged from the voter registration rolls to prevent needless errors and abuse.
Let's get this straight -- someone sworn to uphold the law won't prosecute for instance if dead people are on the lists and vote because it allows more people to vote. So now the Obama Administration has determined they can "DEEM" how a dead person wants to vote.

We know for a fact that ACORN was registering felons because a felon is one of the people that tipped off a local Republican office holder what they were doing in a state because he was afraid he would get in trouble for registering and voting. The felon was much more honest than the people at ACORN or it seems the political appointees at DOJ under Holder/Obama.

Former DOJ Attorney Adams now has joined Pajamas Media as a contributor and is giving us more insight into the Holder and DOJ which is increasing DOJ attacks on him for lying. That charge backfired when three attorneys from the voting rights section came forward to confirm what Adams had said to the Civil Rights Commission. The DOJ also refuses to go on Megyan Kelly's Fox show to refute the charges. Adams received all kinds of praise and awards at DOJ as he didn't waiver in his enforcement of the law so for Holder and his people to attacking Adams shows their desperation. Since Adams considered both Section 7 and 8 equal along with other sections of Motor Voter and believes that voter fraud needs prosecuted, it seems that put him out of synch with this Administration.

We want to thank Megyan Kelly of Fox News for staying on this subject because voting is one of the most sacred responsibilities we have as United States citizens. As a political party the Democrats for years have been using voter fraud to steal elections but in 2006 and 2008 they carried it to a new low starting in the Democrat primary. When are State Attorney Generals going to step up and say "No more voter fraud in my state" and demand that every County registrar scrub their voting lists and report to the local District Attorney of their County and the State Attorney General what they discovered?

It is past time a photo ID for every voter is required to vote. That is not intimidation as Democrats claim, it is ensuring that our elections are honest. No more of using a utility bill to vote when they can be manufactured for any number of people. We would also like to see the year of birth placed next to the name of each voter on the voter lists. That would be a sure way to tell if someone in their 20's is voting for someone in their 80's.

NOW is the time to stop voter fraud in its tracks, clean all the voter lists, and have a fair election in 2010 and 2012. We might discover how many members of Congress are in office because of voter fraud. How many Democrats won't run knowing they won because of voter fraud? Why is it when the election officials discover lost ballots, the vast majority belong to Democrats? Everything about voter fraud points right to the Democrat Party and in 2008 right to the Obama and his campaign with his close ties to ACORN and Vote Smart.
